About Exposition:
Eucharistic Adoration often begins with what is called "exposition", which refers to "exposing" the Blessed Sacrament so that the host can be seen directly. Often exposition is accompanied by some prayers and songs. Common exposition songs and prayers appear below. If you are partaking in adoration in which the Eucharist has already been exposed, then the following prayers and songs will not likely be prayed or sung.
Exposition Hymn:
Latin
O salutaris Hostia,
Quae caeli pandis ostium:
Bella premunt hostilia,
Da robur, fer auxilium.
Uni trinoque Domino
Sit sempiterna gloria,
Qui vitam sine termino
Nobis donet in patria.
Amen.
English
O saving Victim, opening wide
The gate of Heaven to us below;
Our foes press hard on every side;
Your aid supply; Your strength bestow.
To your great name be endless praise,
Immortal Godhead, One in Three.
O grant us endless length of days,
In our true native land with thee.
Amen.
The above hymn is actually the last two stanzas of the hymn, Verbum supernum prodiens, by St. Thomas Aquinas. He wrote the hymn for the feast of Corpus Christi (Body of Christ).
About Reposition:
As the time for Adoraton ends, a priest or deacon will proceed toward the Eucharist and kneel while the following songs and prayers are said. He will then stand, pick up the monstrance, and bless the people with the Eucharistic Host. This is a poweful blessing as the intention is for Jesus to bless the people directly. After the blessing, also called a benediction, the divine praises are often said or sung.
Tantum Ergo:
Latin
Tantum ergo Sacramentum
Veneremur cernui:
Et antiquum documentum
Novo cedat ritui:
Praestet fides supplementum
Sensuum defectui.
Genitori, Genitoque
Laus et jubilatio,
Salus, honor, virtus quoque
Sit et benedictio:
Procedenti ab utroque
Compar sit laudatio.
Amen.
Leader: Panem de caelis praestitisti eis (in Easter Season, 'Alleluia' is added).
Response: Omne delectamentum in se habentem [Wis 16:20] (in Season, 'Alleluia' is added).
Oremus: Deus, qui nobis sub sacramento mirabili, passionis tuae memoriam reliquisti: tribue, quaesumus, ita nos corporis et sanguinis tui sacra mysteria venerari, ut redemptionis tuae fructum in nobis iugiter sentiamus. Qui vivis et regnas in saecula saeculorum.
Response: Amen.
English
Down in adoration falling,
Lo! the sacred Host we hail,
Lo! o'er ancient forms departing
Newer rites of grace prevail;
Faith for all defects supplying,
Where the feeble senses fail.
To the everlasting Father,
And the Son Who reigns on high
With the Holy Ghost proceeding
Forth from Each eternally,
Be salvation, honor, blessing,
Might and endless majesty.
Amen.
Leader: Thou hast given them bread from heaven.
Response: Having within it all Sweetness.
Leader: Let us pray: O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament left us a memorial of Thy Passion: grant, we implore Thee, that we may so venerate the sacred mysteries of Thy Body and Blood, as always to be conscious of the fruit of Thy Redemption. Thou who livest and reignest forever and ever.
Response: Amen.
The Tantum Ergo is the last two versus of the the hymn, Pange Lingua, by St. Thomas Aquinas.
After the Tantum Ergo, this is the time to pray, mediate, and reflect on the Eucharsit. Often tiems there are reflections beign said during this time, this may all depend on who is leading adoration. Soft music can also be included.
Blessing with Eucharist:
Leader: Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us the Eucharist as the memorial of your suffering and death. May our worship of this sacrament of your Body and Blood help us to experience the salvation you won for us and the peace of the kingdom where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Response: Amen
Divine Praises:
Blessed be God.
Blessed be his holy Name.
Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man.
Blessed be the Name of Jesus.
Blessed be his most Sacred Heart.
Blessed be his most Precious Blood.
Blessed be Jesus in the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
Blessed be the Holy Ghost, the Comforter.
Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy.
Blessed be her holy and immaculate conception Blessed be her glorious assumption.
Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother.
Blessed be Saint Joseph, her most chaste spouse.
Blessed be God in his angels and in his saints.
Dismissal:
Leader: Let us go in peace.
Response: Thanks be to God.
Holy God:
Holy God, we praise thy Name;
Lord of all, we bow before thee!
All on earth thy scepter claim,
All in Heaven above adore thee;
Infinite thy vast domain,
Everlasting is thy reign.
Hark! the loud celestial hymn
Angel choirs above are raising,
Cherubim and seraphim,
In unceasing chorus praising;
Fill the heavens with sweet accord:
Holy, holy, holy, Lord.
Holy Father, Holy Son,
Holy Spirit, Three we name thee;
While in essence only One,
Undivided God we claim thee;
And adoring bend the knee,
While we own the mystery.
The above is a hymn that is normally sung after the Eucharist has been returned to the Tabernacle. Usually everyone stands to sing this hymn.
